The fungus called Bd is a major threat to the world's amphibians and information placed in national parks in Madagascar about this disease would not deter ecotourists a new study has found.
The chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) has yet to be detected in Madagascar but the high likelihood of its arrival on the island in the near future has created the urgent need to develop suitable responses. Because Bd could be introduced by tourists - this group needs to be made aware of the appropriate safety measures. The new study published in EcoHealth, based on 659 interviews, found that warnings about Bd would not scare tourists from visiting Madagascar's protected areas.
