At dawn , on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 8 rangers took on a major challenge by participating in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organized by Tusk. They covered 21 kilometers by foot through the humid forests of the Mangabe Protected Area, each carrying a 22 kg backpack. This protected area is habit to an iconic and endangered species, the Mantella auriantiaca, a small golden frog endemic to Madagascar.
Two teams, each consisting of three patrollers and one staff member from Madagasikara Voakajy, participated in this challenge. More than just a physical feat, this event highlighted our unwavering commitment to the conservation of amphibians and the protection of their natural habitats.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge is not just a race, it represents an act of solidarity in support of the rangers who work daily to protect biodiversity. Those rangers climbed mountains and crossed rivers under burning sun. By participating in this challenge, we aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving species like Mantella auriantiaca, while also encouraging financial contributions to support these critical conservation efforts.
