With the support of Maliasili, we have developed our new strategic plan, which will guide our conservation actions in Madagascar to new heights. This ambitious roadmap aims to reverse the decline of threatened species in their natural habitats, in collaboration with local communities.

This plan is built around four pillars to fulfill our mission:

  1. Applied research: Applied research and the monitoring and evaluation framework are the foundations of Madagasikara Voakajy's work. They will inform actions to create sustainable supply chains for the sale of products derived from critically endangered species like baobabs, as well as the sustainable export of species to generate income for the communities that protect these resources, and the approaches and techniques of ecological restoration to protect these species and their habitat.
  2. Habitat restoration: We believe that effective management by local communities allows for habitat protection, promotes passive restoration, and encourages communities to use the necessary benefits to participate in the active restoration of the habitat.
  3. Community engagement: MV believes that valuing endangered species must be accompanied by significant work in terms of managing protected areas. This pillar focuses on strengthening the VOI (Vondron'Olona Ifotony) and functional co-management structures of natural resources, as well as the communities' rights regarding the management of their resources.
  4. Valorization of endemic species: The organization believes that valuing these species provides a very strong financial motivation for communities. These financial motivations are intended to support the long-term use, management, and conservation of these species.

The full strategic plan is already available in our publication on our website in both French and English.
