All the latest news from Madagasikara Voakajy, the Malagasy biodiversity organisation dedicated to the conservation of endemic vertebrates and their habitats in Madagascar.

Since 2019, we have started forest restoration initiatives in degraded areas of the Mangabe Protected Area (AP) (Moramanga District, Alaotra Mangoro Region) in order to maintain the integrity of the ecosystem. In 2022, five village nurseries were installed and 10 nurserymen were recruited and trained in nursery management and maintenance.

The BaoBat 2 is a joint project between RBG KewRBG Kew, University of Antananarivo and Madagasikara Voakajy to protect the baobab Adansonia suarezensis. It is a multidisciplinary project, focused on the study of pollination, the animal interaction with fruits and seeds, and the reinforcement of natural populations of Diego baobab, an emblematic tree of Antsiranana Regions. In situ restoration, leaded by Madagasikara Voakajy, has been initiated since September 2022.

 In January 2023, Madagasikara Voakajy teams hosted a special expedition in Mangabe. 15 partners from Chester ZooChester Zoo were there to help us  promoting the conservation and sustainable use of Madagascar’s endemic species. Each of them shared us expertise in :

This opportunity allowed him to meet partners, to promote existing cooperation and above all to share our vision on future plant conservation projects in the PAs managed by Madagasikara Voakajy. This training which are a very beneficial opportunity to him to talk and to discuss with the financial partners of Madagasikara Voakajy.
