In the new protected area of Bobaomby, in northern Madagascar, a project initiated by Madagasikara Voakajy and supported by the BINNACLE FUND has transformed the lives of the local community. At the heart of this initiative is the construction of a well, a simple yet crucial achievement for the villagers. This well not only provides clean drinking water but has also become a symbol of solidarity, community development, and environmental protection.

For Jaomamy, 45 years old, president of the water management committee in Antsisikala, this project has profoundly changed the social dynamics of the village. Married and a father of three, Jaomamy shares his story:
“The construction of this well has transformed our community. Before, there were internal conflicts within our village, but today, thanks to this project, we have found common ground. The well has helped us strengthen solidarity within the village.”

This project has provided more than just a solution to the need for clean water. It has strengthened social ties within the village by reducing tensions and fostering cooperation among the inhabitants. Access to such a vital resource as water has given the community a shared goal: to work together to improve their quality of life.

Conservation at the Heart of the Project

But the benefits of the well go beyond that. Jaomamy explains that this infrastructure plays a key role in the forest restoration efforts led by Madagasikara Voakajy:
“With the upcoming opening of a nursery center, we will finally have a reliable source of water to irrigate our young plants. This will help us restore the local forest, which is essential for our biodiversity.”

Thanks to the presence of the well, Madagasikara Voakajy was able to initiate the construction of a forest nursery center in the area. This center, whose activities will contribute to the production of young plants, aims to restore the surrounding degraded forests. The new protected area of Bobaomby, once rich in biodiversity, has seen its ecosystems weakened by deforestation. The nursery project and the community’s involvement in water management are crucial steps in revitalizing these forests, which play a key role in preserving local species.

The financial support from the BINNACLE FUND made this project possible. The fund provided the necessary resources for the construction of the well. This initiative is part of a broader strategy for conservation and sustainable development, carried out in close collaboration with the local community.

This project demonstrates Madagasikara Voakajy's commitment to working hand in hand with local communities to find sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. Through initiatives like this, the organization shows that it is possible to combine community development with biodiversity conservation.
