As part of the SEGA project (Scaling up Equity and Governance Area-Based), funded by the Darwin Initiative and led by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Madagasikara Voakajy recently organized a workshop to present the results of the governance assessment of the Mangabe Protected Area.

This workshop, held on April 1st in Moramanga, marks a key step in improving natural resource management through the use of the SAGE tool (Site Level Assessment for Governance and Equity).

Prior to this restitution workshop, an in-depth assessment was conducted with the actors involved in Mangabe's management, complemented by field surveys among local communities. This participatory approach helped analyze how natural resources are managed and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current system. The restitution workshop then brought together stakeholders, local authorities, and community representatives to discuss the results and define priority actions for the next two years.

The use of SAGE played a crucial role in this process. This tool provides a structured evaluation of equity in natural resource governance and identifies areas for improvement to ensure that all actors, including local communities, participate in decision-making and benefit fairly from the outcomes. Through this inclusive approach, the foundations for a fairer and more sustainable management of the Mangabe Protected Area have been established.

Through this initiative, the SEGA project reaffirms the importance of equitable and participatory governance in natural resource conservation, ensuring fair management for all.
